8 Ways to Increase Productivity & Calm Stress

The life of a work at home Mom is not easy. When you work from home, you’re faced with a lot of challenges that aren’t present in the regular workplace. Although working from home has its own incredible benefits, it can be difficult to maintain healthy boundaries, get everything done, and still be an awesome Mom! As I’ve become a true mompreneur, I’ve started to use essential oils to support my health. These amazing oils also balance my mind and help me manage many of the stressors of daily life. If you’re new to essential oils, I’d like to invite you along to take a sneak peek into my healthy Mom routine to increase productivity and calm stress throughout the day.

8 Ways to Increase Productivity and Calm Stress

Before we get into the nitty-gritty details, I want to be clear on one thing. Essential oils are not all created equal! The so-called “essential oils” you find on the shelf of your local supermarket for $9 per bottle will NOT have a therapeutic effect on your health. In fact, most of them are filled with synthetically produced chemicals to smell sort of like the real thing, but without any of the benefits!

I have chosen to use doTERRA essential oils because they have rigorous standards and sustainably produce their oils. They produce the highest potency and quality possible. All the oils and oil blends I mention on my blog are from doTERRA. You can click here to find out more about each of these special oils.

Mama’s Morning Routine

First thing in the morning to kick my body into gear, I place one drop of Frankincense oil under my tongue and jump on the treadmill or pop in a DVD. This boosts my immune system and reduces any inflammation. Frankincense is a powerful anti-stressor as well, so starting the day with it helps me maintain a calm state of mind all day. Exercise is a great way to get the blood pumping and the adrenaline flowing. I listed to a variety of audio books while walking. This is truly my time. I love a good workout and finish feeling like I can tackle anything that comes my way.

I also add two drops of Lemon oil to my morning water before I eat anything. You can learn more about why you should drink lemon on an empty stomach here.

And you should know that it is vital to drink enough water throughout the day. It was always a struggle to get down that much water until I was introduced to essential oils. Now I drink water all day with the addition of  Wild Orange, Grapefruit, or Tangerine essential oils which are all delicious! I alternate them as I fill my water jug. I feel fresh and hydrated during the day which wards off the afternoon slump. If you would like to try a FREE SAMPLE of Wild Orange, click HERE.

Next, following my workout, I like to use a little bit of the Deep Blue blend to soothe my muscles. This blend of essential oils helps my body relax and reduces soreness from overworked muscles. I apply with some carrier oil to my neck and shoulders, and to my lower back, or anywhere else that aches. Mix about 10 drops of Deep Blue oil in a roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil for easy application.

Productivity Tips and Tricks

Heading into the working day, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the things that need to be accomplished. I like to diffuse a blend of 3 drops each of Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint to keep my mind fresh and alert during the day. This combo clears the air, removing allergens and cleansing the sinuses. Lavender helps to promote a calm, attentive mindset, while Lemon and Peppermint keep energy levels up.

I turn off all social media and get to tackling work for the day. I love to use Trello to organize tasks for clients and tend to follow the Pomodoro technique which also helps me keep focus. Mariah over at Bloom Hustle Grow is an expert in both if you want to learn more.

A little bit of Frankincense on the temples or the back of the neck wakes up the brain cells and increases mental productivity. Frankincense can be applied straight to the skin, or dilute 10 drops in a roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil.

When Things Get Stressful

There are times when work for clients can get stressful such a deadline is coming close or I am trying to finish up work before homeschooling time starts with the kids. Yes, I homeschool too. To learn how I homeschool and work without going crazy, you can read that post here.

Lavender, Lemon, and Frankincense are all powerful oils for any stressful situation.

  • Lavender provides a deep calming quality that will relax you physically.
  • Lemon is energizing without being overly stimulating. It can open up the mind and refresh the cells, while Lavender calms and relaxes.
  • Frankincense is a powerful oil that deeply affects the body at the cellular level. Not only does it provide relaxing benefits, Frankincense will improve your overall health. It also intensifies the benefits of other oils it is mixed with making them even more effective!

Diffuse 3 drops of each oil for an uplifting atmosphere, or create a stress-buster roller bottle with 5 drops of Peppermint, and 10 drops each of Lavender and Frankincense diluted with fractionated coconut oil.

Staying Healthy with Essential Oils

When you have kids at home, it’s important to support everyone’s immune systems. Anytime we’re going to be out and about, we add On Guard protective blend to our morning routine. Formulated to give the body’s immune system a boost, On Guard has been proven effective in eliminating germs.

We use On Guard on our feet for a full body immune boost, and keep a bottle of OnGuard hand sanitizing spray handy to disinfect hands as needed. Dilute 4 drops of On Guard in a 10 ml roller bottle and fill with fractionated coconut oil for kids, and increase to 10 drops for yourself.

It’s also a good idea to diffuse 4-5 drops of On Guard during the cold and flu season to keep the air clean and the home germ-free. I also send this with my husband to work to protect him from the co-workers passing germs around.

Wind Down with Lavender

Finally, after homeschooling the kids is finished, I do more client work and then get ready to start dinner. At the end of an exhausting day, I start to diffuse 3 drops of Lavender to promote a calming, relaxed atmosphere. This will prepare you and your children for bed. Roll a little bit of Lavender on the bottoms of everyone’s feet to relax the body and promote a full night’s rest. Use 10 drops of Lavender Oil diluted with fractionated coconut oil in a roller bottle. I even rub a little under my nose and put some on my pillow. Can you tell how much I love the smell of Lavender? And then off to a deep, sound sleep.
